Album Information
Doug's comments coming soon Liner notes Not a day passes when I don’t miss my father. Thankfully, I continue to be greatly comforted by all the fans who ask me on a daily basis when a new release will be available. This set of gems is among his favorites and include many unreleased singles. This collection also holds memories of my childhood as well as soundtracks to my mother and father’s love affair. I used to bounce around the house singing “Delta Dawn” at the top of my lungs, much to my father's amusement. I think I truly did aspire to be Tammy Wynette. Dad’s country music sessions, which included this unreleased version, are among my favorites. My father loved Hawaii. He was a true ocean man and worshiped seawater and surf. He often said he would be happy living in a shack on a Hawaiian beach, watching the moon rise nightly and waking up at dawn. My mother and father spent their honeymoon in Hawaii, and when I was a child, we would take family vacations there. “Song of the Islands (Na Lei O Hawaii)” and “My Tani” are odes to this part of this life. Above anything else, my father was a jazz cat. When he and I would spend a father / daughter day together, we would drive up to Ventura, California for lunch and listen to airchecks of old New York big bands radio broadcasts. He would recall his days playing trombone and arranging for Artie Shaw and Bob Crosby. Muskrat Ramble best exemplifies a hot jazz feeling. “Why Did You Leave Me, Darling?” makes me cry. My father wrote the song and sang the vocal. He was not a singer, but his voice evokes total heartbreak. He was a man for all seasons. These songs show the breadth and depth of his artistry. Enjoy this collection. It represents Ray Conniff at his purest. —Tamara Conniff |
